Get to know the boss lasses and trainers at Outdoor Active
Step into Life South Perth opened in September 2009 and East Vic Park in February 2012 and have both been fortunate enough to have a committed group of members and trainers across their years of operation. That has only continued as of May 2020 when both groups started afresh as Outdoor Active.
Our name describes us quite well – we get our champs active in the great outdoors with a good mix of running, strength training, boxing for fitness, HIIT (high intensity interval training) and also our own version of Yoga/Pilates/mobility training. You could be a fitness beginner, returner or experienced exerciser, we will get you going and keep you challenged and enjoying your training.
Do we train year round? HECK YES! The weather in Perth is perfect for it. On the rainy days we do duck for cover but will always train on.
Don’t we need machines? HECK NO! We use body weight, free weights, resistance bands, booty bands, kettle bells, battle ropes, slam balls, boxing body bags and of course the brilliant terrain at our parks & surrounds to give you THE BEST training experience.
Suzie Adams is a 40-fabulous mumma of 3 strapping boys that keep her on her toes with mountain biking and high school shenanigans. She became a qualified PT in 2015 and has been enjoying working as an outdoor fitness trainer ever since. As a Fitness Trainer her most rewarding moment came when a member, a nurse, let her know that performing CPR had become a lot easier because of their training at the park.
Mel Cathie is also a 40-fabulous mumma, but was only brave enough to go once with a 10 year old daughter. She was working in local government as a Rec Officer and started up walking groups in the area. The buzz of getting people active kicked in, and she was qualified as a PT in 2010. She has been lucky enough to represent Australia in 4 World Floorball Championships and now loves a good Masters Crossfit comp to keep her on her toes. Also an AFL nut, so no speaking ill of the West Coast Eagles!
From the Members: Diverse exercises and great support to individuals, humour and high energy, Knowledgeable and super entertaining
Why you like Mel: Excellent motivator, laughter, adapts to every individuals level, her passion, positivity and constant support

A super mumma of 2 girls and wife of an exceptionally funny husband (member @ South Perth). Although the world tried to stop her with a wee heart issue, Kylie was having none of it and has recovered well to continue to be one heck of a runner. She has conquered many a marathon including the New York Marathon in 2016 where she was the Aussie flag bearer.
Best known for: being the smiling assassin – she seems sweet but loves to make us work super hard, Great care for each member and marathon runner of great repute.
Why you like Kylie: Friendly and encouraging, Super organised and passionate
Favourite saying or sentiment: that’s nice isn’t it! I just mixed it up a bit.
Louise is a mum of 3 boys and an Occupational Therapist and Yoga Instructor. Besides many Yoga sessions each week, Louise also trains with Outdoor Active South Perth to keep her fit and healthy. Louise is very skilled at teaching FlexinFit, a combo of Yoga and Pilates, so everyone can perform at their level. You will get a good stretch, test your mobility and feel very strong, revitalised, and relaxed after each class with Louise. The best part is at the end when she guides you into a most peaceful relaxation after all your hard work & sometimes as a special treat, she has fancy tea!
Paula is the original owner of Step into Life East Vic Park from 2012 until 2020. After selling the business to Suzie, Paula stayed on board as a trainer and helped with an ever so smooth transition of ownership. Paula was once upon a time a Phys Ed Teacher at a highschool before becoming a full time Personal Trainer and business owner. Paula’s attention to detail for every member’s technique, speed, enthusiasm and motivation is 100%. She also has a very creative flare to her workouts leaving you working hard but not realising you’ve come to the end of your workout due to how much fun you are having!

A dad of 2 super high energy kidlets and works in logistics so there is no messing with Mick’s class prep or cones on the park – things must be in order and members on time. He is the self confessed funniest trainer at South Perth and with that claim who wouldn’t want to get to their 6am classes! Mick is an avid AFL Western Bulldogs supporter so 2021 has been a great year!
Best known for: Dad jokes, OCDness with cones and being on time, wit and perceptiveness.
Why you like Mick: Makes it fun with a few jokes, I like how Mick is super organised! He takes pride in what he does! Good relaxed approach.
Favourite saying or sentiment: Not angry, just disappointed, I put the cones out in the dark.
