FIRST TIMERS - FAQ'S

First Timers - FAQ'S

We know that coming along to join a group for the first time can be a bit scary for some. So we have answered a few common questions and info about us that should help in making your first class a lot easier to come to.

MOST IMPORTANTLY to know is that you do NOT need to be fit to give our classes a go! Looking after our newies is important to us because we want to see you back more than once to really feel great from getting active.

The trainers are a friendly bunch who love to make the classes fun! Just check out the Meet Your Trainers section to see what the members say about them.

The members in our groups are not all crazy fitness fanatics that don’t understand ever not being fit! They are truly just like you! They have come back from breaks in being active, they have had bubs, they have had injuries and niggles and need extra care. Some are quite fit of course, many of our members have been with us for years, and some are easing back into action. There is no judgement with fitness level, body shape/size, age, sex, and so on, what matters is that you are out there wanting to feel better!

Each of the class types is quite different so it’s handy to know a little but about the class types before booking, If you are at all unsure, it is always a great idea to chat to Suzie (East Vic Park) or Mel (South Perth) as they can recommend the best class for you.

But here’s a super brief round up:

CardioFit – run training: endurance, intervals, agility and some exercises. Your heart will be pumping.

ToneFit –our strength training class using bodyweight, dumbbells, resistance bands, kettlebells and other assorted great equipment to strengthen and tone our bodies. Making us fit for the challenges of daily life eg. it’s always one trip with those shopping bags!

CardioHIIT – high intensity exercise efforts with recovery periods between. Includes running, body weight and equipment cardio/strength exercises.

BoxFit – our boxing for fitness training using body box bags. No experience is necessary.

FlexinFit – our version of yoga and a little Pilates working on our flexibility, mobility and core strength.

Make sure you are dressed in comfy training clothes. Shorts, tights, T-shirt or singlet, sports bra for the ladies. Running shoes or cross training sports shoes are ideal. Bringing a sweat towel is recommended and definitely a water bottle.

For classes needing individual equipment eg. box gloves, we will provide it for you at your first class.

EAST VIC PARK: For 9am classes, we train at Harold Rossiter Park, off Kent St. You will see our Outdoor Active van in the car park of the pavilion and you can park there too.

All other classes are held at Higgins Park, Hill View Terrace. Again, you will see the OA van parked on the verge and you can park here too.

SOUTH PERTH: We train at Ernest Johnson Reserve on South Terrace. For 6am classes, the OA van will be parked in the lower Council building car park – accessible off South Terrace. You can park in this car park for all classes.

For all other classes, the van will be parked on South Terrace and you meet on the park right next to it. Parking is not recommended on South Terrace, but is fine on Hazel St or in the car park.

It is ideal to arrive 10 minutes prior to the class start time for your first class.

When you start training with us, the right class for you is not only about what you want to get from the training, whether that be to run further, gain strength or tone up; it is also very much about the type of training you enjoy and what works for your body. If you don’t enjoy the training, it certainly not going to be something that you will want to stick with long term.

For example, we have many new champs say that they aren’t into running or they can’t run due to injuries, and that is A-OK, so the ToneFit class is a brilliant option to start with.

If you are getting back into being active, or starting out for the first time, your first class should not be about how hard you can train. Get a feel for what we do in a class in terms of the exercise, but also get to know the trainers and some of the group members, did you like their guidance and company? Could you see yourself happily going back?

We would always recommend having a chat with us before booking your first class so we can give you the nest, personalised advice for you on which class to try.

You deserve to live a healthier, fitter and happier life and we can give that to you with great fitness training in a fun and supportive team. You will never regret giving it a go!
